Without the Rulebook
Many photographs begin with knowing exactly what you want. Some of the most interesting begin with having absolutely no idea where you might end up.
Perhaps you have seen an image somewhere that has stayed in your head. Perhaps it is a piece of fabric, a character, a location, water, paint, movement or something wonderfully peculiar that you cannot quite explain yet. Sometimes all we need is the beginning of an idea.
That is where conceptual photography becomes interesting. We can take something sensual, beautiful, provocative or completely unexpected and build a shoot around it. It might become boudoir photography, fine art nude, erotic art or something that stubbornly refuses to belong to any category at all.
You do not need to arrive with a mood board and a master plan. Bring me the thought. We can find out what it wants to become.
It Usually Starts With One Small Idea
It might be an image you have saved for years, a piece of clothing you love, a film, a painting, a fantasy, or simply a mood you cannot quite put into words. That is often enough.
From there, we can play. Water becomes a set. Fabric becomes movement. Light can turn the human form into something almost sculptural. A sensual portrait might become darker and more provocative. A boudoir idea might wander into fine art nude, erotic photography or somewhere neither of us expected when we started.
Some concepts are carefully planned. Others evolve once the camera comes out. The interesting part is that we do not necessarily have to know exactly where we are going before we begin.

And Then There Is Claudia…
If you have spent any time looking through Boudoir Fusion Photography, there is a very good chance you have already met Claudia. She has appeared throughout the website, across social media and in more of my experimental work than either of us could probably count.
We first photographed together more than a decade ago. What began as a shoot became a creative relationship that has lasted ever since. Whenever there has been a new idea, an unusual lighting setup, water, paint, fabric, movement, a strange prop or one of those conversations that begins with “I’ve been thinking…”, Claudia has usually been willing to see where it goes.
Over the years we have created everything from boudoir and sensual portraiture to fine art nude, erotic photography and conceptual work that does not fit particularly comfortably under any heading. Some shoots were carefully planned. Others began as experiments and became some of my favourite photographs.
Her background in dance, musical theatre, pole and aerial disciplines brings something else to the photographs. She understands movement, expression and the human form, which makes her an extraordinary person to create with when an idea requires something beyond simply posing beautifully for a camera.
There is another reason you see so much of her work here. Privacy is fundamental to Boudoir Fusion. Most of the women and couples I photograph choose to keep their photographs entirely private, as they should be able to. Claudia has generously allowed me to share much of what we have created together, giving me the freedom to show what is possible without relying on private clients’ photographs to do it.
She has travelled with me to the United States, modelled at my erotic photography workshops in Boston, endured some decidedly peculiar creative experiments and, remarkably, still answers the phone when another idea occurs to me.
More than a model, Claudia has become a muse, a friend and an important part of the visual history of Boudoir Fusion.
And after more than a decade, we still haven’t run out of ideas.
More Than a Decade of Ideas
What follows is only a small part of what we have created together. Different years, different ideas and very different photographs, spanning boudoir, sensual portraiture, fine art nude, erotic photography and those shoots for which we never really found a sensible name.
Where Do We Take the Idea?
A conceptual shoot is built around an idea rather than a formula. Sometimes we know exactly what we want to create before you arrive. Sometimes we begin with little more than a colour, a piece of fabric, a character, a prop or a photograph that has sparked your imagination.
From there, we build around you. It might remain sensual and beautifully understated, or move towards boudoir, fine art nude, erotic photography or something altogether more theatrical and unexpected. There is no requirement to fit neatly into one style.
You do not need modelling experience or a perfectly formed concept. Bring what you have, even if it is only the beginning of an idea. I will help you work out the rest.
